Saturday’s Fours Head Race between 550 fours and quad sculls on the 4 ¼ mile Championship Course from Mortlake to Putney was rowed in near perfect conditions with no wind, a reasonable tide and bright sunshine.
The top Henley crew was the men’s quad of Dave Smelt, Charles Friend, Roger Stephens and Rob Wilson who, starting 136th, ploughed through the field to finish 43rd overall.
The boys’ Junior Quad starting 63rd, crew of Simon Thompson, David Read, Ryan Davies and Rob Friend, put in a strong performance to finish 4th in the Junior Division.
The two other boys – Hugo Wiseman and Michael Bennett joined up with Mark Davies and Chris Bushnell in a coxed four to finish 2nd in the Senior 3 coxed fours division.
The Senior Women's Quad competing at S2 comprised Caroline Hocking, Lucy Mills, Juliet Hookey and Junior Squad member Louisa Pickworth the girls started 120 and finished overall ???and ??? in their division.
Also competing at Women's S2 level was the Junior girls quad of Kay Davies (J15), Melanie Gilson (J16), Gemma McIntosh (J16) and Lucy Lewington (J15). These girls started at 280 and finished ???overall and ??? in the division.
Competing at WS3 level where the junior girls coxed four of Lizzie Gilson, Sarah Fellowes, Lucy Darke, Bethan Thomas and cox Becci Varley. The girls did exceptionally well to finish 4th in the division and ???? overall.
