Thames Valley Park

This was a busy weekend for Henley Rowing Club with crews competing at three regattas. It was also very successful with eight wins and some very creditable performances against top class opposition.

On Sunday the Junior crews turned out in force at the Thames Valley Park Regatta and where rewarded with five wins. The regatta is a three lane 500 metre sprint held on the Dreadnought reach of the Thames at Reading.

Hannah Boyd, Caroline Green, Natalie Robinson, Gemma Johnson and cox Rachel Dadds won J16 fours by half a length in a very close and well fought  final against St Georges College BC.

Hannah, Caroline, Natalie and Rachel where then joined by Lucy Darke, Lucy Pratt, Amanda Moore, Elly Lewis and Katharyn Warwick and in another close race beat The Kings School Canterbury by quarter of a length in the final of School and Junior B eight's.

Rachel picked up her third pot of the day when she coxed the under 15 quad of Rebecca Griffiths, Kaye Davies, Hannah Read and Lucy Lewington to victory . In the final the girls beat Bryanston School and local rivals Reading RC after a comfortable first round victory over Downe House School and St Georges College. The fourth girls win came in J16 quads where Becci Varley, Gemma Mcintosh, Melanie Gilson and Hannah Smith Willis after some erratic steering in their first round race against Maidenhead steered perfectly in the final to beat the Kings School Canterbury.
The fifth win of the day and seventh of the weekend came from the J13 boys quad of Peter Wagner, Chris Clark, Drew Ford and Simon Jones,  coxed by Tom Piper who beat Reading Blue Coat School and Walton RC "A" crew in the first round and then went on  to beat Walton RC "B" crew easily in the final. The eighth win of the weekend came from David Read competing in the Junior Boys single sculls event who beat scullers from top rowing school Hampton and Kings Rochester.
