Henley boys triumph at Walton

The Henley Rowing Club Junior Under 13 Boys coxed quad of Peter Wagner,
Chris Clark, Drew Ford and Simon Jones, ably coxed by Tom Piper, won their
event at Walton Amateur Regatta, their first side-by-side event, on
Saturday 8th June. Their eliminator race against Molesey Schools (B) was
one of the closest races of the day, Henley winning by 3 feet, a distance
which probably seemed archaic to them! The lead had changed twice with
neither crew willing to accept defeat. The final, against Molesey Schools
(A), who had won their eliminator by only a canvas, was also expected to be
close. Following a fast start by Henley, however, one of the Molesey boys
caught a crab and, although they tried hard, they never looked capable of
regaining the lost ground. An encouraging start to what will hopefully be
long and successful careers in the sport.
