 Hampton Head

After nearly two months without competion due to the floods Henley Rowing Clubs junior girls where back in action last weekend at Hampton Head.

The lack of racing has not knocked the edge of the girl's competivness as the three boats that raced came away with two wins and a second place. The two quads not quite being the fastest women's boats of the day being just beaten by the women's eight's from Haberdashers Monmouth and St Paul's Girls School by two seconds and half a second respectively.

The winning boats where the junior quad of Bethan Thomas, Melanie Gilson, Hannah Smith Willis and Gemma Mcintosh and the J16 quad of Kay Davies, Becci Griffiths, Natalie Robinson and Lucy Lewington. The junior quad beating their nearest rivals Kingston Grammar School by six seconds and the J16 quad beating Kings Canterbury their nearest rivals by nearly a minute.

The Junior coxed four of Caroline Green, Gemma Johnson, Elley Lewis, Hannah Boyd and cox Alice Skinner finished second to Evesham Rowing club by less than two seconds.

All three crews sculled/rowed well with a good rhythm and a good long stroke that should see them through to more wins in the coming year.

As the river was still flowing fast the organisers sensibly decided not to run events for the younger age groups which means that the Clubs J14 and J13 age groups still await their first competition of this year. It is hoped that along with other Club members that they will be able to race in the forthcoming Henley Fours Head organised by the Club and due to be held on the 15th February.

Tonight (Friday) the girls will be joining other members of the Club at it's Annual Dinner to celebrate last year's successes. A year that saw the Club finishing with over 60 wins and seven members of the Club representing England and Great Britain at World Championships and other International events again making Henley Rowing Club one of the top clubs in the country.
