Junior Inter Regional Regatta

The Inter Regionals where held at Nottingham  where Henley had 5 crews and 14 competitors selected to represent the Thames Up River  region against the eleven other regions. At 8am on Monday morning it looked as though nobody would be getting any medals as the organisers where having seriously to consider whether they could let the event take place in the strong head wind that was creating very rough conditions on the water. The decision was eventually taken to shorten the course from 1500 to 750 metres with rolling as opposed to standing starts. Whilst this may not have made for the fairest of racing and it did ensure that all the youngsters got to race.

All bar one of the Henley crews reached the Grande Finals which helped ensure that the Thames Up river one the Championships. Two crews won medals. The under 14 boys quad of Simon Jones, Chris Clarke, Peter Wagner Drew Ford and cox Kate Thomas got silver in a very closely contested race where they where never more than a half length behind the Northern Region crew from St Leonard's. The second medal came from the under 16 girls pair of Gemma Johnson and Natalie Robinson. The girls led the race from the start but in the last 250 metres caught a boat stopping "crab" (that nearly saw the girls tipped into the water) the girls did brilliantly to recover and went on to take the silver medal.
