GB Vs France Match

For the first time for several years Great Britain won the annual Junior 16 match against France raced at Dorney Lake, Eton last Saturday. The boys event was won by 5 races to 2 and the girls was won by 3 races to 2.

In almost perfect, hot and windless conditions, Henley RC’s Ryan Davies was the second race of the event. The French sculler from Chambery led from the start and Ryan, although technically superior, didn’t have the muscle to get back on terms and was beaten by 3 lengths.

However on the day before the race the three man in the GB quad sculls crew cut his hand and Ryan was brought in as substitute. With only a little time to fit into the crew, they raced away from the French quad from Boulogne to win a fine race by 3 lengths.
