Egham Regatta

Sunday saw the younger girls competing at the very popular Egham Regatta with over 200 races in the day it was a very long day for both competitors and coaches with Henley crews in the first race of the day at 8am and the last at nearly 8pm. It was also a very successful day with crews reaching the final of every event entered and returning with two outright wins. The J15 quad of Becci Varley Caroline Green, Hanna Boyd , Melanie Gilson and cox Nicola Johnson have reached a number of finals over the last few weeks of racing but have been unable to turn these into outright victory this was again the case on Sunday after a bye to the second round where they beat Maidenhead RC but were beaten in the Final by Headington. Becci Varley though compensated for this disappointment by winning the final of J15 single sculls for which she had to race four times beating two girls from Tideway Scullers and two from Headington. The final against Richardson from Headington was a close fought race over the difficult bendy Egham course the final verdict being half a length to Becci.

Lucy Lewington and Kaye Davies were unable to repeat their double victories of recent weeks in both J14 Double Sculls and J14 Quads. After a very tight race in the semi final of the quads event where they just beat Headington the girls had to go straight out again for the final of the doubles event and were just beaten by Lady Eleanor Holles School "A" crew. However in the final of the quads event with team mates Gemma Johnson, Hanna Read and cox Nicola Johnson (the girls eighth race of the day) the girls sculled exceptionally well to record a very comfortable victory over St Georges College.

The girls are all now preparing for the National Championships held at the end of July with the J16s and above also hoping to gain selection to represent England in the Home Countries Match or the Great Britain Vs France J16 match.
