Poplar Regatta

At Poplar Regatta the Club  returned with four Gold, two silver and three bronze medals. The J16 girls of Amanda Moore, Caitlin Bennett, Hannah Blair, Natalie McIntosh continued their winning run. The girls won both J16 quads and J16 fours with comfortable margins, over two lengths in the quad and a similar margin in the four.

The boys J15 quad also took gold, the crew of Peter Wagner, Chris Clarke, Drew Ford, Simon Jones and cox Alex Hall getting a clear water victory over Windsor Boys to re establish their superiority after a photo finish win early in the season at Wallingford Regatta. Alex then went from the Cox's seat to a sculling boat where in his first regatta he took silver medal in the J14 single sculls. The boys also competed in the senior event of Novice coxed fours where they finished in third place in a very close fought race with the first three boats all overlapping at the finish.

Hannah Read competed in single sculls and in the WJ18 event put in a very creditable performance finishing third in her heat for a place in the final where she finished just behind a number of girls who are all competing for places in this years GB squad. In Novice sculls Hannah improved her position to take the third place.

The younger J14 girls all came away with medals. Jenney Arnold taking the Bronze medal in the J14 single sculls to complement a Silver medal won in the J14 quads with team mates, Orla Millar, Emily Derrig, Ellen Anthony and cox Alice Skinner. The quad were just beaten by Molesey Schools but where 18 seconds clear of third place Surbiton High School. Emily and Ellen comfortably won their heat of the J14 doubles but in the final were just beaten by 0.5 second for the third place medal by Lady Eleanor Holles School.

The fourth Gold Medal came from the Senior men's squad Claig Lemon and Hugo Wiseman competing in men's senior 2 doubles which they won by just under a length from St Peters School York

Poplar Regatta for the Junior crews is very much a precursor to the National Schools Regatta at the end of May and it is hoped that the Henley Junior Crews can repeat this performance at the premier event for Junior Crews in a few weeks time.
